The Research Center for Human Health and Performance was established in 2000 and supports the following research fields: biochemistry of exercise, nutrition, coaching, biomechanics and exercise physiology. The aim of the Research Center for Human Health and Performance (RCHHP) is to further the understanding of the biological determinants of human exercise for health and for elite performance In order to achieve this aim, the RCHHP (a) promotes research activity and research collaboration with research institutions both at home and abroad, (b) contributes to the scientific support of elite performers, and (c) actively participates in the education and training of quality undergraduate and post-graduate students providing them with access to new scientific and technological developments in the field of the biology of human movement. Objective: to develop an internationally recognised and respected profile in research and scholarly activity.
Research Activities:
Exercise and Redox status.
Motion analysis of healthy humans and clinical populations.
Examination of factors affecting muscle contraction.
Research Projects:
Architectural Assessment of Human Thermoregulation through biochemical parameters.
RHEUMATOID.ARTHITIS - Reducing oxidative stress in chronic inflammation: Design and testing of mechanisms based interventions.
THALIS – UNIVERSITY of THESSALY – Mechanisms of muscular function: Fatigue and oxidative stress.
THALIS – UNIVERSITY of THESSALY – Exercise, Smoking and Alcohol: Mechanisms and interventions towards prevention, cessation and awareness.
Laboratory Infrastructure:
The exercise biochemistry lab hosts equipment (i.e. complete blood cell count analyzer, biochemical analyzer) in order to assess biomarkers in blood and muscle.
Oxygen analyzer for resting energy expenditure assessment and aerobic capacity.
Human movement analysis.
System to examine single fiber muscle contraction.
