The Laboratory of the Mechanics & Strength of Materials operates with research and educational activities in the fields of Mechanics with emphasis in Computational Mechanics, Strength of Materials and Mechanical Behavior of Materials. The research activities of the members of the Laboratory cover the fields of Computational Mechanics, Elasticity, Plasticity, Continuum Mechanics, Fracture Mechanics, Mechanical Behavior of Materials and Mechanical Testing, Structural Mechanics (Non linear Analysis, Stability, Dynamic Behavior), Biomechanics, and Applied Mathematics. The mission of the laboratory is to a) to conduct basic and applied research in the area of Mechanics, b) to provide high level scientific services for the solution of specialized industrial technical issues, c) to collaborate with national and international laboratories in similar scientific fields and d) to collaborate with the private sector, institutes, organizations and companies so as to improve quality and competitiveness.
